I want to dig a pit measuring 5m x 5m x 5m (16ft x 16ft x 16ft).

For this, I plan to rent a mini excavator, but all the mini excavators I’ve found have a maximum digging depth of about 2 to 2.5 meters (6.5 to 8 feet).

What would be the best way to do this? Has anyone had experience with something like this?

Maybe there is a video I haven’t found yet, or some kind of guide?

I will need to dig a ramp or something similar to get in and out of the pit somehow!

I would be very grateful for any useful tips!

This is most likely life-threatening. I would avoid doing that.

Phew, 5 meters (16 feet) is quite substantial. I wouldn’t take any risks there. How is the situation with groundwater?

That doesn’t matter. Since the original poster is already asking such a question, they probably have no knowledge about shoring excavation pits. Shoring is required starting from a depth of 1.25 m (4.1 feet), and from this depth on there is a risk to life and limb.

So, groundwater probably isn't the problem!

I have already operated a mini excavator, but just not that deep.

I have rented the excavator for next week; I want to do this myself.....

I have already done so much myself, I will manage this too.........

I'm just not sure how I should build the access ramp.......

Well, if the excavation at the top measures 25m x 25m (82ft x 82ft), the project might possibly be manageable.

Seriously though... 5m (16ft) depth calls for a professional company.

HANDS OFF! THIS CAN END FATAL!
