Is it possible to install a wood stove and run the black exhaust pipe directly through the ceiling and roof to the outside, thus avoiding the need to build an additional chimney? Sometimes you see such setups online, but is this also feasible in Germany?

Unfortunately, I cannot give you a definite answer to your question.
You should definitely keep in mind that the flue pipe also emits a certain amount of heat. For this reason, I find a direct penetration through the roof structure quite problematic. I don’t think a chimney inspector will approve it.

You often see this in Danish holiday homes. They usually have only one floor, and the chimney pipe goes directly through the roof. In my layman’s opinion, the sealing underneath looks rather makeshift. I have no idea if a chimney sweep in Germany would accept this. But I imagine it would be quite tricky if you have to pass through an upper floor.

As far as I know, directly through the roof yes, but through the ceiling and roof covering – no.

Hello,
even if you get approval for this, you should consider that
  • you would have a flue pipe running through the upper living spaces, which can get extremely hot and cause severe burns. It becomes very hot!
  • and the pipe creates a direct sound bridge. This means the living room and the room above it will acoustically function as one space.

Visually, it might look really cool in the right house! However, the disadvantages would seriously put me off...

Best regards,

Andreas
