Hello everyone,

Now that our house construction is finished, we want to build a bit of a terrace.
It should be somewhat larger (about 6 meters (20 feet) from the house), and according to our wood expert for the terrace roof, we should pour concrete footings at the four corners. That makes sense so far.

Now my question is how to best ensure the horizontal level for the footings. Unfortunately, I don’t have a long spirit level or straight board to measure with.
My reference height is at the edge of the house where footing No. 1 will be. How can I transfer the exact same height 6 meters (20 feet) further away?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
(I’m somewhat familiar with a water level hose, but I don’t really know how it works and I don’t have one either.)

This can be done, for example, with a laser level, or you can use the good old string line.

Just use a laser level

And do I align the string line with a spirit level? Isn’t that also quite inaccurate?

No, that works. Pull the string tight and hold a spirit level against it. If you need it to be very precise, using a laser level helps.
