ᐅ Surface-mounted / flush-mounted fitting => Additional cost

Good morning!

During the selection phase, the topic of sanitary fittings was also discussed.
The contractually agreed service includes, among other things, the shower faucet "Ideal Standard Ceraplan surface-mounted."
This faucet can be purchased retail (of course without installation) for 60 euros.

Since I did not like the surface-mounted version, I chose to upgrade to the same faucet as a built-in version (Ideal Standard Ceraplan III built-in).

This is not a particularly unusual faucet or anything special.

The built-in faucet is available retail for 106 euros, again without installation.

The company is charging an additional 200 euros for this upgrade (including the cost of the surface-mounted faucet).

My question is:
Is this price difference due to the installation method?
Is it significantly more complicated to install a built-in faucet?
As a layperson, I only see the cost of the faucet itself.

And tile work should be easier with a built-in version, right?

I would appreciate a brief assessment from your side.

Best regards

Yes, the general contractor (I still need to review the exact differences)
I’m thinking about removing even more. Some of this is really outrageous!

It’s definitely more work for the general contractor to handle it this way. He was fair to you and pointed out that you can talk directly with the plumber.

No, I was not informed about that.
I will ask about it now anyway.
Thank you all!

In the flush-mounted version, there is, in my opinion, an additional component that is usually sold for around 100 euros extra. It is called something like "iBox universal base unit" and can be found online for half that price.

Hello,

For the installer, there are additional parts included in the higher price that are usually not listed separately.

For a surface-mounted (surface-mounted / exposed) shower valve, typically needed are: two fittings/escutcheons at the end of the pipes and the valve itself, plus two threaded connections to handle and mount.

For a flush-mounted (built-in / recessed) shower valve: 4 fittings for the piping, the flush-mounted installation unit, some pipe, and a wall connection elbow. Here, in two work steps, 5 threaded connections need to be handled and mounted.

Costs
Flush-mounted installation unit €65, two fittings €20, wall connection elbow €25, price difference of the valves €46 — leaving the installer €44 for the additional installation effort, risk, and profit.

Thank you, Wrobel, for the detailed explanation.
