ᐅ Blower door test conducted without informing the homeowner

Yesterday, the blower door test was conducted at our place. Unfortunately, we were not informed beforehand that it would take place. I find that unfortunate, and I would have liked to be present. In our documents, I only found a note that the test is required for KFW, but no specific regulation about it.

We are very satisfied with the general contractor, but still, I would have wanted to be there. At handover, we will receive a sheet without having been able to verify the values myself.

How much does a test initiated independently usually cost?

How did you handle this?

  • I commissioned the test myself (€300) and was present during it.
  • The correct timing for the test is on plastered walls with the vapor barrier installed.
  • Result was 0.91.
  • Leak detection was also carried out; 2 windows were adjusted afterwards.

Was the front door used for the test or another opening? If you share your results, could you please include whether you have a ventilation system or not? (And preferably provide the results with units or similar ...)

The unit is always the air change rate. However, this is usually not specified, only the value itself. The ventilation system had not yet been installed or operational during the measurement. Does it still play a role?
In our case, it was measured at the front door: a value of 0.93.

For testing, the entrance door was used.
The ventilation system matters (we have one) because the allowed value depends on it.
A house without mechanical ventilation should have a value below 3.0.
A house with mechanical ventilation should have a value below 1.5.
Passive house value should be below 0.6.

A house without controlled residential ventilation: value < 3.0
A house with controlled residential ventilation: value < 1.5
Passive house: value < 0.6

Ah, thanks!
But the test remains the same anyway!

In our case, the test was apparently conducted on the window. What I would also be interested in is the total area and whether the basement affects the value.
