I’m not sure if this is the right place, but does anyone have experience with the prices for garage doors?

We are considering either 5 meters (16.4 feet) or 5.25 meters (17.2 feet).

Is there a big price difference?

Anything over 5 meters becomes quite expensive because it requires industrial-sized components – meaning different cassettes, springs, rails, and drives.

Example based on my quote:

5 meters (16.4 feet) about €2000
6 meters (19.7 feet) about €3200

Both are L-rib Hörmann. For me, the extra cost wasn’t worth it, so I went with 5m x 2.25m (16.4 ft x 7.4 ft).

I would choose an industrial door even at 5m (16 feet) width. So size doesn’t really affect the price. Go for Teckentrup; it’s a bit better than Hörmann, and an industrial door doesn’t add much extra cost. At least 5.25m (17 feet) wide.

I would also recommend choosing an industrial door only. Preferably with a wave motor and as a high-speed door. Find a local door manufacturer. Hörmann is a well-known name, but when it comes to service, and usually also price and quality, you are better off with a local supplier.

We decided on 5 meters (2.20 m / 7.2 ft high) because the wider ones were significantly more expensive.

We have a Hörmann gate with a Hörmann operator. The operator broke down after 4 years and 11 months and was replaced free of charge by Hörmann without any issues. So, the service is acceptable.

How long did it take for the service to arrive? We recently had a case where a cable broke (shaft drive). The door technician arrived in 30 minutes, and 30 minutes later, it was working again.
For industrial doors, there is no price jump over 5 meters (16 feet) either.
I’m not saying Hörmann is bad, but for larger doors, I would look at other, preferably local, suppliers...
