I would like to enhance the east side of my garage soon with a trellis. Since it only gets sunlight in the morning, I have chosen two sturdy climbing plants: either honeysuckle or the climbing rose Dortmund. Which one do you think is better?

The wall is about 3.5m (11.5 feet) high and 8m (26 feet) wide. I was thinking of planting 3, but not mixed.

I once had a honeysuckle, but it didn’t really convince me.
I find climbing roses more attractive. Can they grow in partial shade?

Best regards, Yvonne

Yes, the variety is sturdy. So, Rose. Let’s agree on that between us. 😉

There are also many ornamental vines that grow in the shade. Since they do not bear fruit but only large leaves that turn red in autumn, these leaves fall off in winter.

Yes, wild grapevine was also an option. But on this wall, I definitely wanted some flowers. There are many other spots where the grapevine will get its chance. 🙂

I do not recommend using Virginia creeper. It grows very aggressively.
