Hey,

I have a Zyxel switch. Is there a way to access the interface directly without having to connect a PC or laptop directly to the switch?

Thanks!

The manual should tell you that, right? How is anyone supposed to know here without knowing the model and having the exact switch. Usually, a manageable switch has a GUI. But whether that applies to yours, no idea. Have you tried entering the IP address of your switch into a browser?

Which type is it exactly?
Is it about the initial setup or accessing an already configured switch?

GS1900-24E is the switch.
It’s simply about access. And yes, of course I entered the IP address, but nothing happens. It doesn’t matter whether the Mac is connected via Wi-Fi to the FritzBox and the FritzBox is connected to the switch, or via LAN which then ends at the switch, or via Ubiquity NanoHD Wi-Fi which also ends at the switch.

Ok, the GS1900-24E is working for me as well.

During the initial setup, the switch needs to be assigned an IP address within the router’s network, but the address must not be the same as the router’s. If I remember correctly, the switch has a default IP of 192.168.1.1, while my FritzBox router is at 192.168.178.1. To get the switch onto the router’s network, I gave my PC a static IP of 192.168.1.2 and connected only the PC and the switch via LAN. Then I accessed the web GUI and changed the switch’s IP to 192.168.178.2 and saved it. From that point, access stopped. After that, I connected everything to the FritzBox, and now any device, including via Wi-Fi, can access the switch through its IP. It’s important that the static IP address you assign is excluded from the router’s DHCP range.

It will have a different IP address.
The default is usually 192.168.1.1.
The Fritz box usually operates in the 178 range, so you won’t find it there.
For example, you can temporarily set your computer’s IP to the 192 range to access the switch.
Then you need to change the switch’s IP to the Fritz box range and save this as the startup configuration on the Zyxel.
