Hello everyone,

I never planned to build a house, but now I find myself completely involved without any prior knowledge. I want to convert the attic space for my daughter. Since I’m not very creative myself, I’m asking here if anyone might have some unique ideas for furnishing a teenager’s room. She is 15 and definitely wants a room that is very different from her friends’ rooms.

I appreciate any tips!

Hello,

I’m not sure how it is with 15-year-old girls, but from experience, I can say that it’s quite difficult for parents to understand what a perfect teenager's room looks like. We had many ideas to improve our son’s room, but no matter what we suggested, we were met with deaf ears. We wanted a nice Art Nouveau wallpaper, but our son now has a graffiti wall. So my advice to you: ask your daughter and let her decide.

Hello Tomcat,

Of course, I asked my daughter about her preferences as well. The main thing for her is that her room stands out from those of her friends. She just wants it to be different, cozy, and cool according to her ideas. She absolutely does not want textured wallpaper or a thousand magazine posters over the bed. So far, she has only somewhat decided on a color. She could imagine orange or sunny yellow. Maybe someone has an idea on how to create a cool room based on these limited details. Thanks in advance!

Hello gatita,
we built a “chill corner” on a raised platform for our eldest child. Of course, it requires some basic DIY skills. On the platform, there is now an extra-large mattress covered with a durable fabric. On top of that, plenty of cushions are spread out. That’s where he hangs out with his friends, playing PlayStation or watching DVDs. It has been very well received, and not everyone has something like that in their room. Maybe this could be an idea for your daughter as well. The whole setup can be customized to suit individual tastes.
Get in touch when you’ve made a decision. I’d really be interested to see how you end up designing the room.
Best regards, Jack

Hello Jack,
thanks for your tip. The “Chillecke” project sounds great. I’ve already talked about it with my daughter, and she’s really excited. Maybe it could even be built in a triangular shape directly into a corner of the room. We haven’t made a final decision yet.
Maybe there are more ideas here in the forum for an extraordinary youth bedroom that could be combined.
Thanks again for your great idea!
Best regards, gatita

Hi!

I’m currently renovating a room for my daughter, which will be her bedroom. I’m planning to hire a graffiti artist to spray a small piece of artwork on the wall. I think this kind of thing always appeals to teenagers! There are designs to suit every taste.
