Good morning everyone,
As the year is coming to an end, hopefully most projects for 2019 are completed. What are your plans for 2020? Any major projects in the garden or upgrades inside the house? What will you be working on next year?
We want to finally finish and move in by January/February, so gardening and the terrace will be on the agenda for next year.
My personal passion project is the hot tub. I just haven't decided yet whether to buy one or build it myself. I definitely don’t want one of those plastic ones...
A concrete one would be amazing:

We are supposedly getting the move-in date December 2020 written into the home purchase contract. I want to try to have a penalty clause included in the contract. Some companies do this, and if ours refuses, we will rethink our options. Addendum: I can also stay in a nice hotel for a while.
I understood from your posts that you are still looking for a construction company.
Be careful, many are fully booked for next year and haven’t even started yet. Make sure nothing is done poorly or that the contract contains so much fine print that you end up paying for a hotel for four months.

You don’t want anything rushed or have a contract with so much fine print that you end up paying for four months of hotel stays.I probably didn’t express myself clearly. We haven’t signed a house purchase contract yet, but our favorite builder has at least verbally assured us that we can move in by December 2020 at the latest. If that is not included in the contract later on, I don’t know whether we will sign or keep looking. A short construction period was one of our criteria. We are older and don’t have as much time as most homebuyers. For this reason, a house "built to last forever" is not that important to us. If it stands for 25 years, that will be enough.

Addendum: I can also stay for a while in a nice hotel. Be careful, even if a penalty for exceeding the completion deadline is contractually agreed, it is limited to 5% of the total construction cost. Additionally, it must be proven that the delay was caused by the contractor. This means weather-related interruptions, issues with utility providers, or problems with the building site are not the contractor’s responsibility and extend the construction period without your right to claim the penalty. And you wouldn’t believe how quickly you can receive a notice of obstruction due to bad weather. Then the nice hotel will very quickly come at your own expense.
You simply don’t terminate your current rental just because someone promises to have a house ready in nine months. You can easily avoid that stress by building in a buffer. Plan for paying double rent for two months, and the whole process becomes completely stress-free. Then give notice one month before completion.

We also searched in the Dresden area but then, among other reasons because of the many lakes, switched to Leipzig. There we found a plot through ImmobilienScout and now hope to be able to buy a house soon. Are you tied to Dresden? Yes, we are.
