Good morning everyone,

As the year is coming to an end, hopefully most projects for 2019 are completed. What are your plans for 2020? Any major projects in the garden or upgrades inside the house? What will you be working on next year?

We want to finally finish and move in by January/February, so gardening and the terrace will be on the agenda for next year.

My personal passion project is the hot tub. I just haven't decided yet whether to buy one or build it myself. I definitely don’t want one of those plastic ones...

A concrete one would be amazing:

Be careful with the chickens; legally, for private keeping, they need at least 4-5 m² (43-54 sq ft) of outdoor space per chicken and a minimum coop size of 1.5 m² (16 sq ft), as a friend of ours recently found out through the veterinary office.

And a big project is coming up at the beginning of February: Children's room 2.0. The furniture has been purchased, now just waiting for delivery to assemble it. And at my age, to better understand the room layout, I’ve been playing around a bit with movable furniture templates.

Also, there’s a raised bed about 10 m (33 ft) long.

And the terrace will have its porcelain stoneware tiles realigned.

There is a development plan. Since we are ordinary, average people, we are building in a usual and average way as well, nothing special. The most unique feature nowadays are the shutters, which we can also do without if necessary.

That doesn’t mean anything.

Friends of ours already had their building permit / planning permission while ours was still waiting in the processing queue.

We received our building permit / planning permission just as the excavator arrived at our friends’ site.

Nothing unusual, nothing special, no exceptions, nothing.

Do you already have an idea? I'm not sure whether we should make everything on one level or include a step...

For us, definitely step-free, even though it’s more complex.

The children's room is currently finished. This year we converted the baby room into a girl’s room.

A chicken coop with 1.5 sqm (16 sq ft) – most of the ready-made, stylish, trendy ones are too small for that.

It’s not strictly regulated to that extent; I have also had a visit from the veterinary office (which was prompted by concerned neighbors). The most important things are registering with the animal health authority and providing proof of quarterly vaccination against Newcastle Disease. Fresh water and feed must always be available, along with a dust or sand bath and a dry shelter for the night.

Sorry, this got accidentally included in the quote from tomtom79:

Suggestion regarding the chicken coop: If possible, it should be large enough to stand and work comfortably inside. Neighbors have a very stylish coop, but cleaning it is a hassle. I can generally imagine having chickens... but first, a fence needs to be installed around the entire property.
