ᐅ Incorrect roof tiles: glossy instead of matte

Hello everyone,

To my surprise, I noticed today that the roofer has already installed or laid out glossy black glazed tiles instead of the agreed matte black glazed tiles.

We are meeting with the roofer tomorrow – he has already admitted it was a delivery error. Now, I’m unsure how to proceed...

We could certainly request a replacement, but I don’t want to put the company at risk of bankruptcy – although it might not be that serious.

The zoning plan allows for both types – the house opposite also has glossy glazed tiles.

However, I have read that neighbors might be able to file complaints. I want to avoid leaving the tiles as they are and then having someone complain in three years because of glare.

What are your thoughts on this?

I find the forum’s opinions helpful in the sense that you can read the views of uninvolved parties. I don’t blindly follow the majority but like to use it as an additional factor in my decision-making process. Many have more life experience, different perspectives, and deeper knowledge... so why not?

If the roof were already covered and the mistake was only noticed afterward, I would consider a teardown to be disproportionate. However, since the roof isn’t covered yet and it is simply a wrong delivery, I would insist on a replacement. For me, it would not add any value at all if I didn’t like it, no matter how expensive it might be.

If that is the case, that would be good! Unfortunately, I get a different impression, and I have shared that feeling. For the second time, if I’m not mistaken.

For the second time, however, we did not blindly follow the forum community but instead sat down with the craftsmen and found an amicable solution for everyone.

Take, for example, the pile of soil that was supposed to be stored from the thread last week... I would have simply said “yes” blindly without even considering what that could mean. Even after the thread, I would probably have said yes, but not quite so lightly.

And are you taking them now?

Yes, the bricks will stay on. We found a compromise that both sides can live with.
My wife took another close look at everything during the day and in sunlight (not so easy, as we haven’t had much sun here lately) and said she thinks it’s okay and that it would be a shame to have to dispose of everything now (also partly for sustainability reasons). Now we’re happy that the roof is almost fully covered.
