Pleasant Sunday,

I would like to build a terrace with WPC decking boards on an existing exposed aggregate concrete slab terrace (at least 30 years old and stable).
The plan is to set the WPC terrace substructure on adjustable pedestals, as the slabs are not perfectly even and I can achieve the desired slope by adjusting the pedestals.

Maybe I could also place rubber pads between the waterproof plywood (WBP) and the pedestals to compensate for the unevenness of the slabs.

Do you think this is feasible?

Thanks in advance.

Use slightly damp screed concrete and fill it into freezer bags. Then align the substructure on top of these bags (if the substructure is made of wood, make sure to place it on the rubber pads so the wood does not sit in water). This way, you can achieve a perfectly level alignment.

P.S. Landscape gardeners often use this method as well. It also saves a lot of money.

Use pedestal supports with rubber pads; they work well with exposed aggregate concrete as the base surface 🙂

That works perfectly. I did something similar, but I first had to install exposed aggregate concrete slabs on the existing ground.

For a terrace about 4x4m (13x13 ft) in size, I used around 70 pieces. I believe fewer would have been sufficient (each pedestal has a load capacity of 2 kilonewtons), but I bought about 100 as a lot on a classifieds site for just over one euro each instead of around four euros. Great for adjusting the height. Most of the work was mixing and laying the slabs. You don’t even have that, so the rest will be very easy.

The pedestals themselves compensate for slight unevenness. I laid the slabs into the water as well as I could on short notice, but it wasn’t perfect. I also think that with WPC, rubber pads aren’t as important because of the plastic content.
