ᐅ Wooden staircase: oiled or lacquered

What are your thoughts on this? We definitely know that it will be a wooden staircase, preferably in a dark shade. (Walnut or ash with black oil finish also looks stylish). Due to the almost unlimited options of wood types, colored oils, or stains, we are currently not quite sure which direction we want to go...

We have now also decided on our staircase: oiled hevea wood.

Let's see how the final result turns out.
I generally find painted staircases too slippery. Without those ugly carpet adhesive strips, you’re likely to slip and fall at some point.

Do stained stairs always need to be sealed with a topcoat afterwards? I have never seen a dark, oiled staircase anywhere.

I have to answer no, a stained surface can also be oiled, but it involves some effort.
