ᐅ Wooden Fence – Significant Color Variation

Hello everyone,
I would like to ask for your opinion and expertise.
We ordered a fence that looks quite different in the catalog compared to the actual product delivered. It is made of pressure-treated wood. According to the supplier, the fence’s color will change over time towards the desired shade. They say that the dark color right after treatment is a sign of quality.

However, the current color does not meet our expectations at all.
Attached are some photos. Does anyone know if the fence will realistically look like the one in the catalog (and shown at another supplier as well) anytime soon?
We are unsure whether we should exchange the fence.

If an exchange is necessary, I would be interested to know if you are aware of wood types that do not typically have such color variations.

Yes, we are also leaning towards making a complaint. However, we are unsure whether we should reorder the fence.
You won’t really have full freedom here under warranty law. My guess is that you ordered from a distributor who only stocks the requested color, but the manufacturer actually offers several colors and sent the wrong one. Perhaps the two colors have codes like 0815 and 0185, or some other small but significant mistake. I don’t think this error will happen again—unless the distributor is careless and passes on the complaint without enough explanation (then however you will probably get the exchanged brown without defects swapped again for the same brown without defects). Just to be safe, use your remaining school-level English skills and check with the manufacturer whether something like what I suspect might have caused the problem. But don’t delay submitting the formal complaint over this.

Exactly, you can even see that the darker wood is pine and the lighter one is larch, which is significantly more expensive – so it’s also warped. Complain and have it replaced.

Both the timber merchant and the supplier believe that the fence will become lighter in color.
Do you really think the picture shows larch?
In the catalog (see photo) it says something about pressure-treated pine / spruce).
Well, this won’t be that simple. According to the merchant, the supplier will only deliver this particular color again...

... and you can even keep it: by the time that chocolate brown has faded, Saint Neverday will have come and gone three times, and any warranty periods are effectively null and void

If they give you that in writing, you will be entitled to a replacement or cancellation

Basic consideration
- Larch / pine will turn gray over time if treated without color (take a look around your area)
- If treated with color, the color will remain but will fade and turn gray over the years
- There is no wood that still looks like the picture after 10 years
- That’s why it is impregnated with dark stain, which lasts if you repaint regularly
