As you can hopefully see in the photo (hmm, why is it no longer possible to upload photos?), we had two compartments made in drywall construction in the (accidentally created) niche next to the chimney. We want to use them to store our firewood for regular use. The compartments are about 52cm (20.5 inches) wide and 39cm (15.5 inches) deep. We are concerned that putting in and taking out wood over time will damage the white-painted plaster.
We considered tiling the shelves, but in theory, you would have to tile the sides as well. That not only takes up space but might also look a bit odd.
Then we thought about installing a U-shaped steel sheet. It doesn't take up much space and is quite durable.
Do you have any other ideas on how we could solve this (discreetly)?

DragonyxXL16 Oct 2017 14:17I have concerns about the break resistance when it comes to glass. I saw that Wodtke also offers something in the desired direction with the "Wally." However, the prices (well above 150€) for such welded sheet metal are really quite steep.
