Hi everyone

My girlfriend and I recently decided to build a small wooden cabin in the mountains. We already have a suitable plot of land and a small woodland area included. I just wanted to ask if there is anything I should consider before starting construction.

Thanks

Hey

If you want gas, electricity, drainage, etc. there, you need to check whether the lines are already installed at that location. Otherwise, you will have to arrange for them to be installed.

If I were you, I would first check whether building is even allowed there. It might be a protected area where no structure is permitted. This could cause serious trouble for you; if there are any rare species living or growing there, you can forget about building.

Hello,
You don’t necessarily need to have electrical wiring installed; it’s better to have a small solar system installed on the roof. This is better for the environment and, in many cases, likely cheaper than installing electrical lines. Installing lines would be far too expensive.

If the cabin is not very large, it is best to use the lower floor as the living area and have only a sleeping area directly under the roof upstairs. I have lived in a similar cabin before—very cozy, especially if you want an adventurous and private experience.

Hello,
even if it is only a cabin, there is surely a specific building style you need to follow. It looks terrible if it is too modern, and since you need a building permit / planning permission for everything in this country, it is probably no different for a cabin like this.
