Hello,

We are planning to install click vinyl flooring. We also intended to install a wood-burning stove.

Now I am reading that you shouldn’t place a stove directly on vinyl because the vinyl cannot withstand the heat well.

Is that correct? Do you have any experience with this? What if you place a protective barrier (glass or steel) underneath? Would that still not be sufficient?

I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks and regards

Hello!

We have a fireplace installed on click vinyl flooring (version with an underlay). We haven’t had any issues (at least our fireplace has a wooden storage compartment at the bottom that doesn’t get warm). According to the respective datasheet, the combustion chamber or stove requires a certain clearance on all sides from combustible materials.

When using click vinyl, you definitely need a hearth glass plate.

Best regards,
Ellie

Floor coverings made of rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) should be classified as organic building materials.
Accordingly, such coverings not only have a material-specific softening point but also a flash point.
Therefore, the area around a solid fuel stove (which can produce embers that may escape when loading the combustion chamber) must be protected with a non-combustible base.
Whether or not a residual impression remains on the surface under the stove is irrelevant, as it is not visible.
The risk comes from glowing particles escaping from the stove that could create a fire hazard.
