Hello everyone,

I have a wood stove from Modena, and the glass always gets black when I use it.

I open the primary air intake and close the secondary air intake.

When I open the secondary air intake (even just slightly), the glass stays clear, but then too much air comes in, the fire becomes very wild, and the room doesn’t warm up.

I experimented a lot with it last winter and tried everything, but I can’t find a good setting. Does anyone have any tips?

With wood stoves, it is usually the primary air that enters the combustion chamber from below. This air should be open together with the secondary air during the ignition phase. Once the fire is burning steadily and there is no more smoke, you can close the primary air. The secondary air should remain open!
Only then can the glass cleaning system work properly.

So, open both primary air and secondary air to start the fire, then close the primary air (from below!). This is how the system works correctly. It is important to close the air supply from below only when there is already enough heat in the combustion chamber.

Thank you for your help.
I have tried it, but it doesn’t help at all. The primary air is completely closed, and as soon as I slightly open the secondary air slider, the fire becomes completely uncontrollable.
It makes no difference whether I open the slider slightly or fully.

Does every chimney have secondary air? I have never read anything about that. I can only control the primary air.
