I have a question 😉. The previous owner of the house (Hartl prefabricated house) I bought removed the wall between the kitchen and the dining room.
Now the wooden beam ceiling sags slightly at that spot – about 3cm (1.2 inches) over a length of 4m (13 feet). Above is only the unfinished roof space.
A builder told me I could fix this by:
Placing glued laminated beams (glulam) on the ceiling from the attic side (across the entire length) and screwing them to the ceiling.
Do you have any other suggestions? How thick and what type of wood should the glulam beam be?
I was thinking about a size of 15 x 15cm (6 x 6 inches) over the length (about 5m (16 feet)). I would screw this completely from below (screws through ceiling and glulam beam) and secure it with lock nuts.
Thanks in advance for any answers and ideas.
Best regards, Gerald 🙂

I think it is more important to find out whether the removed wall was load-bearing. After all, the roof has to rest on something. We definitely have load-bearing roof beams that rest on interior walls. If that is the case, simply placing a piece of wood on top is not enough. Proper support would be necessary. Normally, the required information can be found in the structural engineering plans. Alternatively, a structural engineer should take a look at it. Anything else would be too risky for me.
