Hello everyone,

Since there have been some minor thefts in our residential area recently, we are looking for a video solution for our carport that should meet the following requirements:

- Wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi)
- Ideally, storage via built-in memory card
- Battery-powered operation (no power outlet available at the location)
- Recording triggered only by detected motion

I would especially be interested in personal experiences from other forum members – from my point of view, the market is quite overwhelming.

Additional info: we do not have a smart home system and do not intend to set one up. Since I professionally work a lot with smart systems in other fields, I specifically want to avoid this…

Thanks in advance for your insights!

I use several Reolink cameras. I would recommend the Argus PT with solar panel. It should meet all your requirements.

I can also recommend the Argut PT with solar panel. The image quality is completely adequate, and it works reliably.

Personally, unfinished threads without a clear conclusion really annoy me, so here it is:

I went with the REOLINK Argus PT Ultra 4K including a solar panel.

The image quality is beyond any doubt, and thanks to the built-in microSD card, no cloud service or other extras are necessary. The detection works very well. So far, a thumbs up from me.

What you need to know: It responds to "motion," meaning movement. Since I keep my motorcycle in the carport and sometimes the wind gets under the cover, it initially caused false alarms. However, you can prevent this by setting an "exception," meaning the area around my motorcycle no longer triggers movement alerts but it still detects, for example, people...

How long can the camera operate "without sunlight"? I find this especially interesting for winter conditions. I would like to install this one or the Trackmix at my in-laws’ place, who have similar technical requirements as you.

Thanks to the internal MicroSD, there is no need for any cloud service or other extras.
That’s not necessarily an advantage. In that case, the recordings are basically useless from the start, because whoever is handling the property transfer can simply remove the device from the carport and take it with them.

You can also monitor the carport from the roof ridge. Nowhere does it say that it was installed for optimized access.
Of course, if it is installed within easy walking distance, simple SD recording is pointless. Mine is mounted in the gable... only the fire department can reach it with a ladder truck.
