Good evening,

since I received great help with my last question here, I now have a second one.

Yesterday, while passing by, I saw a new building nearby that had windows framed with sandstone, and it also had a sandstone base. I thought it looked really great and would visually fit very well with our planned construction.

Now I wonder whether this is affordable, what the durability is like, and any other experiences with it.

Best regards

I also thought it was cool and had once inquired about it at a stonemason, and it wasn’t that expensive. Unfortunately, I can’t find it anymore, but I believe it was around 600€ for a 1.2 x 1.8 m (4 x 6 ft) window, including installation. Additional costs for thermal bridge prevention, etc., would apply.

We are currently considering building a timber-framed house, 9 x 11 m (30 x 36 ft), with a roof pitch of 53 degrees, no bay windows, etc., in Lower Saxony.
And now sandstone surrounds on the window reveals and a sandstone base—how does that fit together technically, or is it about a different house?

Since the zoning plan in our community does not allow the timber-framed house as we had originally envisioned, we now have to revise our plans and are looking for alternatives. The sandstone surrounds caught my attention, as they would also match our style.

Try searching for the company Villa Belavista from Radebeul. This construction company builds beautiful villas, often featuring sandstone details. Sandstone is quite common around Dresden (Elbe Sandstone Mountains). Maybe you can contact them and get some information. I would be interested as well. Best regards, Steffi33.
