Hello everyone,
I am currently at the stage of planning our own home where I need to define the sizes for windows, patio doors, and interior doors. Are there standard dimensions for these, or do you have any recommendations?
We look forward to your feedback.
Best regards, David

Normally, measurements are taken during the shell construction phase, and then production takes place. There are always special cases. In our situation, the windows are already being produced even though the shell construction is not yet completed. However, it is a different system and requires meticulous planning and execution.

And producing a standard size should cost the same as any other size. At least, that’s what our window manufacturer told us.As a former window manufacturer, I can’t confirm that: not having to reset machines for every single unit, but rather running hundreds of units of the same size, does save a noticeable amount. This applies not only to the frame with all trims and seals but also to the glazing. So, the savings add up. The logistics are also different: if I have one unit 257 cm (101 inches) wide and another 259 cm (102 inches) wide, I have to label them carefully to avoid mix-ups on site. In storage, it’s easier too: with identical sizes, I can take pallets from the left or right side interchangeably, depending on convenience.Only for the installer—especially in a single-family house with twenty-five windows in nineteen different sizes—does it not make a difference whether the windows are a standard size or a custom measurement.

I do not want to contradict a former window manufacturer.
But maybe the small word former simply makes the difference here
However, it does not make sense if there is no demand for that discontinued size
That is exactly the point: warehouses used to exist, nowadays storage is known to be no longer profitable.
Just search for buying windows online. There, you do business with custom-made products.

Try searching online for buying windows. We did that; it was a major reason for abandoning our own production. Homeowners miscalculate various supposed must-haves (which they don’t actually need, but after all, the Hoppenstedts have them too), and the windows end up being the trade where they try to recoup that cost with deep discounting.
