Hello,

our tile installer, who we have been waiting for three weeks now, has finally installed the window sills. Of course, the painting is already done, and we will move in over the weekend...

Is it technically necessary to get the walls underneath dirty? Or can it be done without?

Thanks and best regards
Simon

The best approach is probably to briefly address this unpleasant matter with the site manager during the final inspection (if it is happening very soon) and ask for a simple goodwill solution.

The paint should still be available (even if you hire a painter, they usually leave some leftover paint on site), so you can buy a brush and cover it up. The construction company could then offer something small that you would appreciate. For example, if the company always works with a window supplier, you might get pleated blinds (plissees) for free or something similar. Or maybe the 7.5-ton (16,500 lb) company truck for your move. Something to make you satisfied again without the costs becoming completely disproportionate. And keep the tone friendly, since the problem is actually on your side. The site manager messed up with his statement, so try to have him resolve the issue cheaply. Otherwise, he might claim to remember nothing and you’ll be out of luck.

In our case, the sales representative of the construction company stumbled over a stack of tiles during the site visit and damaged our self-installed flooring upstairs. The tiles slipped and hit the laminate flooring edges, causing a few surface scratches. Contractually, it was our bad luck, since we were not really allowed to do anything ourselves before handover. But the site manager was embarrassed, and we were given pleated blinds (plissees) worth €500 as a goodwill gesture. We didn’t replace the laminate piece, and after wiping it once with a damp cloth, the scratches are no longer visible.
