Hello,

Two years ago, we built a timber frame house with wood fiber insulation boards and aluminum window sills on the exterior.

I have only now noticed that the window sills can be pressed down in the middle without any resistance. It seems to me that they are not properly installed or fastened, or not fully bonded across the entire surface. They appear to rest only on the reveal at the left and right ends, leaving a completely hollow space underneath.

Since it is a prefabricated house, these were of course already installed at the factory, so I was not able to check this before.

Now the question is whether this is actually correct (because it is the case for every window), or whether it might have been installed incorrectly (perhaps there are specific regulations or guidelines).

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Show a picture from below... but I don’t think there is a defect... as long as it is not a windowsill you can step on (patio door).

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response. I can’t take a picture from underneath right now (work), but nothing will be visible from below except that it has been plastered there.
There is also an aluminum window sill at the patio door. I bought a fly screen and a fly screen door with installation, and the installer was initially puzzled because there is simply nothing underneath to attach to (track), until you reach the wood at a steep angle.
I can take pictures this afternoon and upload them.
