Hello, currently I am having the windows replaced in our single-family house (built in 1980). The installation is being done according to “RAL installation” standards. Old wooden windows are removed and new plastic (PVC) windows are installed. I have two questions – also considering that this is my first time witnessing a window replacement “live” and I don’t fully trust the craftsmen.
1. After two windows have been replaced, I notice that the new windows do not line up flush with the interior window sill. There is a gap of about 0.5 – 1 cm (0.2 – 0.4 inches). Is this “normal” and can this simply be sealed with silicone or acrylic?
2. The gap between the masonry and the window is filled with PU foam. Then trim pieces are glued onto the cut foam as a finish. Does this procedure comply with RAL installation? I tried to research online and usually only see references to vapor-permeable or vapor-tight sealing tapes for the finishing seal...
Thank you very much!

Could you please upload a few photos to clarify?
Hello andi2333,
A few months ago, we also replaced our old wooden windows with uPVC windows and encountered similar issues, which forced us to deal with installation according to good building practice.
The additional vertical strip installed in the reveal was probably added because the window was incorrectly measured, meaning it is too small for that opening.
Your new access openings lack the side finishing strips; they are just sealed with silicone...
I would be interested to know which window manufacturer you chose and whether the building inspection has already taken place???
