Hello dear home builders!
We are currently in the planning phase for the extension (adding an additional floor) of my husband’s parents’ house, and now we are facing the question of which windows to choose and from whom... Unfortunately, this is an area neither my husband nor I have any experience with. Of course, we are doing our research before purchasing, but I’m hoping for some support from those with experience.
I would like to know which windows you chose and why? How many chambers? Triple glazing seems like a must these days. Which manufacturers can you recommend (preferably from Austria)?
We don’t want to overspend, but I understand that windows are not cheap and should last for decades. The price-performance ratio is important.
What else should I pay attention to when selecting windows? And what should I include in the request for quotation?
Yes, that’s a lot of questions...
Thank you in advance for your answers! Best regards

Windows are usually manufactured by small and medium-sized companies. The profiles they use are industrial products. Large manufacturers, like Drutex from Gdansk, for example, also produce the profiles themselves. By the way, Drutex makes good windows. If they have a representative near you, they will probably offer you a good deal. Otherwise, in my opinion, profiles from Rehau, Kömmerling, Verka, etc., are all fine. The local manufacturer just needs to properly bond the profiles together, usually using MS polymer, which is very durable. Triple glazing is not mandatory but is now generally standard. Double glazing is also an option.
We have Verka profiles, and the installation team that produced them came from Szczecin. The savings on labor costs made their windows about 2000 (dollars) cheaper than Rehau profiles purchased from the local carpenter. With tax, almost 2400 (dollars). All windows are fine. Karsten

Whether double or triple glazed, this should be coordinated with the external walls.
Best regards in shortNO! Heating and ventilation should just be done appropriately. Then you can install windows with a U-value of 0.5 even in a cardboard box without any problem.
Enough off-topic, I think Karsten said it all.
