schmidt190420 Oct 2018 01:01Hello,
We are currently planning our house and are still undecided about which windows to choose. The thermal insulation certificate specifies windows with a U-value of 0.95.
At the moment, there are two options.
Feba Novotherm 76 profile – U-value 0.94
Feba Ecotherm 85 profile – U-value 0.83
The additional cost for the Ecotherm is about 1000€ (net). Which windows should we choose?
Thank you!

what exactly do you mean by identical? The Ecotherm has better Uf and Ug values (0.5 instead of 0.6) to achieve a better overall U-value. Both are triple-glazed and feature a 6-chamber system.
In my opinion, economically it doesn't really make sense to choose the Ecotherm. The extra cost of 1000€ cannot be recovered. But maybe I’m being too short-sighted here, and a more advanced professional product might have other advantages?

The thickness of the profile does not necessarily indicate the quality of the other components. For front doors and larger sashes, using a thicker profile can make sense beyond just improving energy efficiency. Often, more durable hardware is used compared to the less expensive versions. For smaller window sashes, this is usually not relevant.
What you should definitely add, and what is not included in your Novotherm offer according to the manufacturer’s data with a Uw-value of 0.94, is the warm edge Swiss Spacer Ultimate. This means the spacer between the glass panes is made of a plastic profile with insulating filler instead of stainless steel. This reduces the continuous thermal bridge around the glass. In addition to lowering the U-value to below 0.9, it also significantly reduces condensation at the glass-to-frame junction. This usually only adds a very small additional cost.
Oh, and from an aesthetic point of view, it is much more pleasant to have light gray instead of black seals, especially the glass seals on the glazing beads and the outer edge of the glass.
