ᐅ Kitchen windows installed too low – how to adjust?

Hello,

we are about to buy an older house, but the windows were replaced about 12 years ago. In the kitchen, one window is quite low, down to around 80cm (31.5 inches) above the floor. However, the countertop definitely needs to go there, and it should be about 90cm (35.5 inches) high.

How would you solve this: by thickening the window frame or installing a smaller window and bricking up the rest? And what costs should we expect?

If you have other ideas, such as making part of the countertop lower or something similar:

Those options are not possible for us.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Then just do it if everything else is allowed as it is and there is no alternative. Window costs depend on the material, type, and size.
But there are actually two options...

Yes, and you don’t provide any relevant information. With the information I have, I say: Both are flawed, the lesser flaw is probably the version with the smaller window.

How large is the window? Are there blinds? A photo of the window from both outside and inside would be helpful.

Without knowing the property, I would make the window smaller. In my opinion, it requires less work.

Is it possible to install the window completely higher up?

The window is 1.30 meters (4 feet 3 inches) high and 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches) wide. There is a roller shutter box integrated into the wall.

Then I will stick to my recommendation. Raising the window will be too complicated.

The roller shutter box probably goes all the way up to the ceiling? Photos are really helpful.

How much is the new window supposed to cost? The choice of option depends entirely on that.

Unfortunately, I can’t provide photos (yet). We want to do it properly but also as cost-effectively as possible. That’s why I wanted to get an idea here of what rough costs I should expect for a reduction. You need a new window, a mason, and probably have to replaster the exterior…
