Hello

We are about to finalize a contract with a well-known construction management company. We are deciding between double-glazed or triple-glazed windows. Since we are considering window muntins (grilles), we were advised to choose double glazing because the muntins reduce the thermal performance (U-value) of triple glazing, and the extra cost for triple glazing is not financially worthwhile.

Do you have any tips, advice, or opinions?

Thank you

Should they be real muntins? Then the general contractor might be right. But if the muntins are only applied for the look, then not.

What is important to you when building the house and choosing windows?

Great appearance or energy efficiency?

You have to know what you want, and the price will determine what you get accordingly.

Man: Efficiency
Woman: Appearance

The question is whether the loss in efficiency is really that significant.

We built a KfW 70 house in 2013 with double glazing. Many large windows, no special technical requirements beyond the usual... just slightly missing the KfW 55 standard.
Just for your information, you have to decide for yourselves.

Best regards in short

With muntins or without? And if yes, which type?

Woman: Doesn't clean herself? — applied muntins also make the surface easier to clean, as a nice side effect of the structural continuity of the glass panes with only visual division.
