I am interested in what are called window-connecting transverse elements in my new build (I can’t find another term for it).

Modern white architect-designed house with large glass facades, balconies, and garden area

Windows in a white facade with dark slate cladding.

Here as examples, one made of wood and in the second image with slate panels.

Can someone explain the building technology of how this is implemented in a construction method without external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) / external wall insulation, and how the depth differences are adjusted? Can the elements be attached directly to the exterior wall and the rest simply plastered, or how should this be understood?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

When this was still somewhat modern, it was a different time: before ETICS / EIFS and before energy-saving regulations. Attaching directly to the wall is possible, but flush plastering practically requires a correspondingly slim assembly.

Are you really worried that your house might look too "simple"?

Exactly. I see it daily when I drive to work through a residential area. Was that the 1970s?

Worried? No. I’m just interested in how something is executed.

I would say up until the early 1980s.

I just meant that from your house design, I got the impression you were quite keen to add some "character" to the facade.

The effort is definitely there, but that's because I really like that style. Whether we'll be able to implement it, I don’t know yet. I’m currently waiting for the architect’s first draft.

Since the Energy Saving Regulation came into effect, even the smallest cantilevers have become a "complex task" due to the need to insert a thermal break. From my point of view, especially inexperienced homeowners tend to be too cautious, fearing their building might become too generic – yet with proportions and textures, you can achieve so much "articulation" that detailed moldings are often "unnecessary."
