My wife and I are still discussing the color of the roller shutters. The plan is to have the window frames anthracite on the outside and white on the inside. For the roller shutter color, my wife prefers gray or silver. I would have stuck with anthracite.
My wife argues that the rooms will be brighter inside and that dirt on the roller shutters will not be as noticeable with gray or silver.
What do you think? Would you also lean toward gray or silver? The house color is otherwise white, and the roof is also anthracite.

Fuchsbau359 Oct 2023 15:52We are getting exactly the same color combination: dark gray roof, white facade, anthracite window frames on the outside, white on the inside, and gray roller shutters. I find it calmly timeless, though some might find it boring. More stylish are probably roller shutters that match the color in anthracite. No idea if they cost more? In my life, I have rarely cleaned roller shutters—except removing cobwebs inside—so I have never really thought about dirt or color in that regard. But I’m probably the worst homemaker of all...

My wife argues that the rooms are brighter inside and that dirt on shutters in gray or silver is less noticeable. Brighter rooms? No, I can’t confirm that. Dirt is a tricky subject. First, shutters rarely get dirty. And second, it’s either dust, which is quite visible on dark surfaces, or, for example, smashed insects on the inside, which are especially noticeable on light colors. By the way, I can hardly remember the last time I cleaned shutters. In the last 30 years, maybe about 5 times.
Anything anthracite will heat up quite a lot in summer. That includes shutters if you use them for sun protection. They can expand and crack considerably—especially aluminum ones. The same goes for anthracite window frames. There are several discussions about this here and in other forums.

My wife wants the roller shutters to be gray or silver, but I would have preferred anthracite. Well, 7016 is the new standard gray. At night all cats are gray, so why should roller shutters be mint green or saffron yellow? The extra cost isn’t worth it. Keep in mind that roller shutters are sometimes used for shading; with anthracite color, PVC is no longer an option. Since the hailstorm in May ’22, I have had aluminum shutters ("natural," meaning silver) in the living area and light gray PVC elsewhere. I know the difference from experience and, due to less dirt buildup and easier cleaning, I would have chosen aluminum natural all around if it were my property.
