Hello everyone,

About a year ago, I bought a Malm bed frame from IKEA. At first, it was very stable, but over time I’ve noticed that the frame is visibly warping in some areas, especially around the sleeping surface. I’m curious why the Malm bed frame warps after some use, even though it’s supposed to be designed for everyday furniture use. Is this due to the construction, the material, or maybe because all Malm models tend to have the same issues after a while? I’ve already tried tightening the screws, but that doesn’t really help in the long term. Can anyone shed some light on this and maybe provide a detailed explanation or tips on how to prevent the warping?

You can also look at it this way: The Malm bed frame is produced cost-effectively, which is reflected in the materials and joining techniques used. If you want more stability, you need to invest more.

Warping is unfortunately common in many inexpensive chipboard furniture pieces, as they do not offer the rigidity of solid wood.

Sleeping comfort and stability often correlate with furniture quality.

Thank you all for your assessments and tips; they have been very helpful to me.

I will especially keep in mind batabe’s advice about being cautious with moisture and the suggestion to use additional battens. The constructive points raised by Penau are also very insightful.

Maintain indoor humidity consistently between 40-60%

I hadn’t realized before how much impact that has!

I will try to thoroughly check all the screws and better control the indoor humidity. If that’s not enough, I will consider a more robust model.

Thanks again to everyone who helped to properly assess the problem and make the topic easier to understand.
