ᐅ Why does the left door on the Kallax close differently from the right one?

Hello everyone, I’ve been wondering for a while why the left door on my Kallax shelving unit closes differently than the right door. Specifically, the left door has some resistance when closing and sometimes doesn’t sit flush with the frame, while the right door closes almost perfectly and aligns flush. Both doors are officially from the same manufacturer part. Does anyone know any technical reasons for this? Could it be a construction defect, an adjustment issue, or is the left and right design fundamentally different? I would appreciate any insights on differences in hinge mechanics, installation instructions, or experiences, as I want to understand the problem myself before undertaking any major modifications.

What exactly do you mean by depth adjustment on these hinges?

Exactly, the depth adjustment allows the door to sit flush at a right angle against the cabinet, meaning it can be moved horizontally "in" or "out" relative to the shelving unit. This way, you can adjust the gap dimensions and prevent the door from protruding too far or sticking.

How can you tell if a door causes problems due to warping?

A simple test is to remove the door from the hinges, lay it flat on a level surface, and check if it lies flat or visibly wobbles (for example, on a table). Another sign is if the door catches at certain points when closing or behaves unevenly.

Additionally, a light test helps: hold the door at a narrow angle in front of a light source to spot irregularities or bulges.

If warping is present, usually replacement parts must be ordered from the manufacturer, or you can try slight trimming of the edges to compensate (be careful, as this affects the appearance).

If the left door sticks, also check if the magnetic catch is properly aligned. With Kallax, there are sometimes variations in the positioning of the magnetic strips that affect how it closes.

Great topic, everyone! 🙂 I had exactly the same problem and was really annoyed at first. But after trying the tips here, it was gone!

Kallax doors are so clever, but small adjustments really make a big difference. For me, the depth adjustment helped a lot because my door was slightly misaligned and didn’t close properly.

So keep at it, you can do it! 🙂

It’s great when experience motivates here. Sometimes it’s just a small screw or a tiny adjustment in the right place that makes a big difference. Especially with furniture you assemble yourself, patience is the best remedy. :-)
