Hello everyone, I have owned the Brimnes wardrobe from IKEA for some time now, and I have noticed that it sometimes squeaks, especially when I open or close the doors. The noise is not constant but rather occasional, so I’m not sure if it is due to the construction or possibly the assembly.

Can someone explain why this wardrobe sometimes squeaks? Are there common causes for this issue, and how can the squeaking be permanently resolved? I would appreciate any tips and experiences! Thanks in advance.

I experienced similar issues with the exact same model. The hinges squeaked, especially in dry air or if they hadn’t been moved for a long time.

My advice:
- Tighten the screws on the hinges again
- Use silicone spray, as it also protects against moisture and dirt
- Open and close the moving parts a few times to help distribute the lubricant

If the squeaking comes from the floor, check whether the cabinet is standing properly. Sometimes a small unevenness or tension causes noise. You can place small felt pads or furniture glides underneath, which often helps.

Are there any preferences for lubricants on plastic and metal parts?

Regarding lubricants – silicone spray, as recommended by FABIAN_DEO, is the standard choice for combinations of metal and plastic because it does not become sticky and does not attract dirt.

Important points:
- Never use thick or sticky oils, as they attract dirt.
- Avoid using WD-40 as a long-term solution since it mainly acts as a cleaner and water repellent.

This way, the mechanism remains functional and the noise disappears permanently.

Check if the hinges are properly aligned and secure.
Then spray them with silicone lubricant.
In some cases, loosening the screws slightly and tightening them again also helps.

If the squeaking comes from the floor, check whether the cabinet is sitting properly.

This can really be a crucial point. On uneven floors or if the cabinet wobbles, wood or plastic parts can shift slightly against each other when moved, which can cause noises.

Even a slightly warped base panel can contribute to noises, especially with heavy or unevenly distributed contents.

My tip: Check the level with a spirit level and, if necessary, use furniture shims.

Can you specify exactly where the squeaking is most noticeable for you?

After reading all the suggestions, I will systematically check the following this evening:
- Tighten screws
- Treat hinges with silicone spray
- Check the surface with a spirit level

Thanks to everyone for the many tips and detailed explanations! If the issue doesn’t improve, I’ll provide feedback again.
