I want to raise the question: Why do some Ikea Brimnes drawers stick? I’ve noticed that with certain models, the drawers don’t slide smoothly but catch or feel stiff when pulling out or pushing in. This is especially noticeable when the drawers are loaded or when they are opened and closed quickly.
I am particularly interested in whether this is often due to incorrect assembly, material tolerances, or if the design of the Brimnes series has certain weak points.
Are there known problem areas with the drawer runners or during assembly that one should watch out for to prevent sticking?
I look forward to well-informed answers or experiences from you so I can check this specifically on my furniture.

Are there any known problem areas with the drawer slides or installation to watch out for in order to avoid jamming? The most common issue with Ikea Brimnes drawers is incorrect installation of the drawer slides. It often happens that the slides are mounted slightly misaligned or not perfectly level, which leads to uneven movement and later jamming.
Another factor is the material properties of the drawers themselves – relatively thin fiberboard can slightly warp with moisture. This changes the clearance dimensions, especially when the drawers are loaded.
I recommend first checking the drawer slides with a spirit level, tightening them if necessary, and making sure the back of the drawer does not press against the cabinet bottom or side panels.
Additionally, installing small felt pads can help reduce friction. This can especially improve the smoothness of the drawer operation.

It really frustrated me because I initially thought the furniture piece was just poorly made. After checking and readjusting the slides several times, the drawer now operates much more smoothly.
However, I find that Ikea’s instructions don’t always explain clearly how precise the installation needs to be. Especially without professional tools, it can be quite tricky.
How did you solve this? Have you developed any special tricks to get the drawers running smoothly?

How did you solve this? Have you developed any special tricks to get the drawers running smoothly?A few tips:
- Use a small level when drilling and screwing the drawer slides to ensure accuracy.
- Slightly chamfer the edges of the wooden strips to prevent them from catching.
- Make sure screws are countersunk and not protruding, as this can cause obstruction.
- Occasionally, applying a small amount of silicone spray to the slides can help—but use sparingly, as too much lubricant attracts dust.
Combining these points significantly reduces drawer sticking.

I also added felt pads to the sides, which makes a huge difference!!
Maybe someone will try that out. By the way: make sure the drawers aren’t loaded too heavily, as that puts strain on the runners and causes them to jam.
Good luck to you all!
