Hello everyone,

I have recently noticed that some doors on IKEA Brimnes furniture stick or are difficult to open and close. My question is: why do some doors on IKEA BRIMNES stick?

It doesn’t seem to be the case for all of them—some work perfectly, while others are rather stiff. I suspect this could be due to the fit of the doors or the quality of the hinge installation. Environmental factors might also play a role, such as humidity or temperature changes that could slightly warp the materials.

Has anyone had similar experiences and can explain why BRIMNES doors tend to stick more often? Are there any simple solutions without having to return or replace the entire piece?

I look forward to your insights and advice!

Jamming usually occurs due to inaccurate adjustment of the hinges. Simply tighten or loosen the screws on the hinges slightly until the door closes smoothly.

Sometimes the engineered wood shifts slightly, which can be corrected by adjusting the door.

Hello,

I would like to explain in more detail why some BRIMNES doors can stick.

First, it is important to know that IKEA furniture generally falls within a certain price range where manufacturing tolerances are somewhat looser compared to more expensive branded furniture. This means that some parts, especially in versatile systems like BRIMNES, are produced with slight variations. These tolerances can cause doors not to fit perfectly.

Many people report that the MDF carcass slightly expands or contracts with changes in humidity or temperature, which can make closing the doors difficult. In particularly humid or very dry rooms, the dimensions change slightly, causing the doors to shift and then stick.

Furthermore, the adjustable hinges are a great advantage because they allow fine-tuning, but unfortunately, they are not always intuitive to adjust. Those who do not take the time to carefully align the doors may experience problems after some time.

I therefore recommend first checking the hinge screws and regularly readjusting the doors. If the door sticks at the edge, gently sanding the problematic area can help, but be careful not to damage the surface.

If the problem occurs after a longer period, it may be caused by a warped part (e.g., the door itself) – in this case, replacing the door is the best solution.

I hope this helps everyone dealing with this issue. Feel free to ask for more details if needed.

I can definitely relate to this from my own experience! Our BRIMNES cabinet doors also kept sticking, particularly during the humid seasons in autumn and winter. It’s really frustrating when you feel like you’ve done everything right, yet the door still catches.

What helped me was regularly checking the hinges and carefully readjusting them. I also smoothed the edges of the doors a bit where the sticking was worst. That significantly reduced the problem.

I find it very helpful to know that I’m not alone with this issue. It saves a lot of frustration and allows us to share useful tips with each other.

How about others? Do you have any better tricks for dealing with sticking doors?
