Hello everyone,

I have been experiencing an issue for some time now where the doors of my Billy bookshelf have warped after a certain period of use. I wonder why this happens. Could it be due to material defects, installation errors, or possibly external factors like humidity?

My BILLY doors are from the standard range, and I installed them about a year ago. At first, they fit perfectly, but after a while, it became clear that the doors no longer close flush and the edges are bending. I would like to understand the exact causes of this deformation—after all, these are quite simple wood-based materials.

Are there any technical insights or experiences you could share?

Thanks in advance!

I find this discussion very helpful because I have exactly the same problem.

The BILLY doors in my case warped gradually. At first, I thought it was due to the installation, but it seems the effect of humidity is actually underestimated.

That also played a role for me; since the bedroom is often not well ventilated, moisture built up over a long period.

I will now try to improve the room’s climate control a bit and take a closer look at the hinges to adjust them. Thanks for that, it gives hope!

I’m curious if this worked for you as well or if you know of other solutions.
