Hello everyone,
I have noticed several times that some doors of my Billy bookshelf open on their own without me touching them. This is not only a bit annoying but also raises some questions for me: Why do some BILLY doors open by themselves? Are there known reasons for this phenomenon, such as structural defects, design features of BILLY, or perhaps environmental factors that play a role here? The doors themselves seem to be secured either magnetically or with simple hinges, but apparently not sufficiently. I would appreciate any technical explanations or practical tips on how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone,

I would like to highlight the adjustment of the doors again. BILLY doors can be adjusted via the hinges – horizontally, as well as in depth and height. If doors open by themselves, this is a typical sign that the alignment is off and the weight is not properly supported.

Additionally, using small felt strips on the cabinet frame can improve stability and make the doors close more softly. It is also possible to replace the magnetic catches with stronger models if they are worn out.

Finally, check whether the screws have loosened. Screws tend to loosen over time, and the hinge may lose its proper fit.

I hope these solutions help you! 🙂
