ᐅ Why are some BILLY shelves difficult to install?

Hello everyone,

I recently tried to install the shelves in my Billy bookcase, but some of the shelves were very difficult to fit. I noticed that the shelf supports often hold very tightly, so inserting the shelves requires considerable force, which makes me somewhat uneasy. I wonder if this is a normal manufacturing characteristic (for example, to ensure stability) or if it could be due to individual production tolerances.

I am also curious whether the difficulty in fitting the shelves might be related to differences in material thickness or the position of the support points. Has anyone else experienced something similar or knows any technical reasons why some BILLY shelves are particularly hard to insert?

Looking forward to your insights and advice!

Sometimes a little lubricant like some paraffin can help the shelves slide more easily.

That’s a good tip, thanks!

I also wanted to add that I feel the lower shelves often require more pressure than the upper ones. Could this actually be due to the load or possible material warping?

Additionally, I’m wondering if the type of support strips (wood or plastic) matters for BILLY. It would be interesting to know if anyone has noticed differences between the versions with wooden or plastic supports, as I have both types in different shelves.
