Hello everyone,

Lately, I have often encountered missing parts when ordering or receiving Ikea Hemnes furniture. This can range from small screws to entire components, making assembly very difficult or even impossible. My specific question to the community is: Why do missing parts occur with Ikea Hemnes furniture? What are the known causes, for example in logistics, packaging, or shipping? And most importantly, how should you best respond if you notice missing parts early when unpacking or sometimes only during assembly? I would really appreciate it if anyone has practical tips on how to resolve this issue as easily and quickly as possible, without having to wait hours for replacement parts or dealing with conflicts with customer service.

Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

I can really understand your frustration – it’s very annoying to look forward to assembling your home and then realize important parts are missing. In my experience, this usually happened due to mistakes in the packing process or damaged boxes from which parts might have fallen out.

What helped me was to systematically check everything as soon as I unpacked and immediately note any missing parts. Then I called customer service without delay, staying polite but firm.

Sometimes replacement parts take a few days to arrive, but I found that customer service generally tries hard to assist quickly.

If it helps, I also once received incorrectly packed screws – and after escalating the issue with customer service, I was even offered a small compensation gift. So, it’s definitely worth following up!

How about others here? Are there any tips to make this process even smoother?

Very good topic you bring up. Missing parts in Ikea Hemnes furniture can have several causes. From a logistics perspective, errors can occur during order picking in the warehouse, meaning when individual parts for a piece of furniture are assembled. Especially with more complex furniture that includes many small components, it can happen that some screws or connectors are either not packed or get lost during transport.

Another factor is the quality of the packaging itself: if boxes are damaged or not properly sealed, parts can fall out.

Recommendations for action:
- Systematically check all bags and packaging for completeness right away.
- Specify missing parts exactly (item number, description).
- Use the Ikea online portal for spare parts or contact customer service directly.

I recommend being as detailed as possible when reporting what you have already unpacked, to avoid misunderstandings.

I would be interested to know how often the replacement parts actually arrive correctly and on time – that can sometimes be a test of patience.

Causes for missing parts are mainly packing errors and transport damage.

My recommendation:
- Check immediately upon receipt
- Report missing parts with type and number
- Request replacements, usually takes a few days

It is important not to continue building without all parts.

I want to emphasize this again. I once thought I could improvise, but in the end nothing fit together properly, and I had to start over completely.

You should also not hesitate to keep contacting customer service if the first attempt to get replacement parts doesn’t work out. Politeness pays off, but consistency helps as well.

If anyone is unsure about the best time to report missing parts: I always report missing parts on the day of delivery to avoid unnecessary follow-up questions later.
