Hello,
I have my floor plan ready, and now I need to plan the installations. Besides DIY and “the electrician does it,” there must be specialized planning companies as well. Are there such companies for a typical single-family house? If so:
(The reason for my question is a service offer for “distribution planning for smart home control” that I came across today at voltus by chance. I will post similar questions regarding “water,” “heating,” and “ventilation” with other members.)

- What are the pros and cons of using a planning service like that?
- What is the typical cost range (single-family house without many extras)?
- Which companies can you recommend?

In single-family home projects, the planning is usually done by the electrician, since there is hardly anything complex to plan—it’s not like an airport terminal or a theatre. However, as mentioned earlier, there are also lighting designers, IT planners, and system integrators involved for clients with more advanced needs.
It’s similar to kitchen planning. You can either have it done by a consultant at a furniture store or by a specialized kitchen studio. Both essentially do the same job, but there are differences and subtle details.

So that would be a different person than the electrician? Okay. Do you have any idea how the process works and what costs I should expect? A quick Google search gives me everything from "free online lighting planner" to impressive lighting installations in event centers... I would recommend finding a lighting planner or lighting consultant, who are often associated with kitchen manufacturers. We included kitchen lighting planning as part of our kitchen package. We then asked the same person to handle the lighting design for the entire house. Typically, the consultation, sketching on our floor plan, and providing documentation costs around 200 to 300 euros.

Pros (for a single-family house without many extras): noneCons (for a single-family house without many extras): price, necessity
This also applies to water, wastewater, etc.
All of this is included in the craftsman’s price.
For a standard single-family house, I would only have the heating design done by an engineering office (room-by-room heating load calculation, hydraulic balancing, underfloor heating installation plan) for about 150–250€ (165–275 USD).
Lighting design is debatable but is often offered free or at a low cost by lighting specialty stores (you can also study and plan this yourself).
