sopraHello everyone, I’m currently facing the task of assembling my new Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers and noticed while going through the instructions that it is a bit more challenging than I expected. I’m wondering if any of you have tried-and-true tips or tricks that make the assembly easier and help avoid mistakes. In particular, I’m interested in advice on the best way to sort the parts or the order in which to assemble them to save frustration and time. Maybe there are also recommendations on the use of certain tools or common pitfalls to watch out for in advance. So, who among you has experience with self-assembling the Ikea BRIMNES and can offer useful hints?
The BRIMNES furniture is actually very well designed, but it can be a bit overwhelming at first. I would recommend carefully reading every step and not rushing anything. Often, people underestimate the importance of thoroughly checking the wooden parts before assembly – to ensure there are no defects or damages. For sorting, it helps a lot to spread everything out on the floor and group the pieces by type. A little tip: to secure the screws, a Phillips screwdriver with a good grip is better than a power drill, as it gives you more control and prevents overtightening, which could damage the material. If you get stuck, just take a moment to breathe and then calmly review the relevant section of the instructions again – sometimes small marks on the sides also help to keep track of where you are.

It really helps to lay everything out on the floor and group the parts by type when sorting. That’s invaluable! When I assembled the BRIMNES last time, I spread the parts out on an old blanket – the small pieces don’t slide away, and you quickly find what you’re looking for. And: Don’t rush yourself; enjoying the process of screwing things together makes a big difference 😉.
The instructions from Ikea are well designed, but the pictures can sometimes be confusing. With the BRIMNES, I found that it helps to fully assemble all the drawers first and only then work on the main frame. This way, you keep a clear overview and avoid additional installation errors.
