Hello everyone,
The topic of heating is very relevant for us right now, and I’m getting a bit frustrated. The contractors seem to have little experience and mostly just sell the top sellers of their own brands. For that, they charge about an 80% markup plus installation fees. What I really want to know is… who buys the equipment online? So far, I haven’t found a single heating professional who will install units that weren’t purchased from them. I suspect that heating contractors get their equipment directly from the manufacturer or wholesaler. But if there are some shops online, there must be a market for it.
As I said, I’m just curious. Of course, some people might install their heating systems themselves, but that can’t be very common.
so long, ck

That is understandable, but I simply cannot expect a tradesperson to install the inexpensive materials I bought cheaply for a low price, or even for free. They have to make a living too, and that’s not possible by charging only for labor. This applies whether it’s oil or heating. You are right, that is not what I intended to imply with my comment.
Isn’t it usually the case that items purchased through a wholesaler are more expensive? I have personal experience with this, whether it’s plumbing, heating, electrical materials, or car spare parts. Even though I don’t know wholesale prices for everything (but I do for some), I find it hard to believe that plumbers, car repair shops, etc., keep the difference compared to retail prices. Wholesalers probably argue that they keep items in stock and can deliver within a day. However, shipping services don’t take much longer either. But when I see, for example, a glow plug costing four times as much at the car workshop compared to online, or a toilet seat at the plumber costing €210, while online it is €90, it seems quite odd. I have seen the wholesale prices for electrical switchgear, and those were already higher than retail prices. On top of that, the installer adds their margin.
I also procured and installed my heating system myself with the help of the HTD. I laid the entire underfloor heating myself as well. However, a well-known heating engineer helped me with the rest of the installation. You simply don’t have all the tools and materials yourself. And you don’t have all the small parts the heating engineer carries in their vehicle. With the experience I have now, I would do it completely myself next time. But unfortunately, you only gain that experience afterward.
There probably are heating engineers who will connect the system for you. Or can you not just buy "underfloor heating with piping, but without heat pump"? Then the heating engineer wouldn’t have to handle warranty issues for the unit. Installers are also listed in the Aquarea Club.

But why not? If an authorized workshop charges an hourly rate of 100€ and passes on all material costs with only a small handling fee, why shouldn’t they be able to make a living from that?
If that really were the case, then the hourly rate is simply too low. The total amount is the same in the end; one time I’m satisfied, another time I feel cheated. This is also called a mixed calculation.
Oh yes, the world is so mean, mean, full of bad craftsmen, the builder the victim... and everyone so clever, thinking they know how to estimate... In the end, it’s a matter of power. And the one who knows how to install and can actually do it holds the power. Period. Karsten
