Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to assemble an IKEA Metod tall cabinet and am looking for advice on how to proceed as precisely as possible, without needing significant adjustments afterwards.
My main question is: What specific methods or small tricks would you recommend to align the tall cabinet exactly and ensure that the doors and drawers close perfectly later on?
I am interested both in how to work with the assembly instructions (which, as we know, don’t always cover every detail) and how to handle uneven floors or walls.
For example, are there any tools you particularly recommend, or practical tips for pre-drilling, adjusting, or fitting?
I have already learned the basic technical terms, but I want to gather concrete and actionable tips to avoid mistakes and make the assembly as neat as possible.
Thanks in advance for your support!

I know assembling can be frustrating, but it works best with calmness and a little patience. With my first Metod tall cabinet, I had issues with doors closing unevenly because I didn’t spend enough time adjusting them.
My tip: Take your time with the door alignment. Even if it can be frustrating to adjust the hinges slightly every time, it’s worth it in the end for a perfect result.

I know, assembling can be stressful, but staying calm and patient works best. Exactly! During my last assembly, I made a relaxed playlist specifically – good music makes the patience game more bearable. 🎧
Also: constantly check with a spirit level. That’s half the battle to ensure the doors close properly and nothing is misaligned.

I assume that besides a good cordless drill and a spirit level, there are also special attachments or small aids that make adjustment and assembly much easier.
Does anyone have experience with leveling tools or special angle aids for the side panels of the Metod? I look forward to concrete recommendations.

About the tools:
- Cordless screwdriver with variable speed and suitable Torx bits (usually T20 for IKEA)
- Spirit level, preferably a small one that can be easily positioned on the cabinet
- Definitely also a square to check corner joints
- Small plastic wedges or wooden blocks to compensate for uneven floors
I personally also used a small leveling device, which is especially useful for multi-part tall cabinets to align them in a straight line.
Pre-drilling is recommended only when attaching to the wall, not on the cabinet body.
