Hello everyone,
I have a somewhat specific request and hope there are people here with experience: Does anyone have replacement wheels or compatible casters for older KALLAX models from IKEA?
Specifically, I’m looking for the wheels attached to the bottom of the older KALLAX shelves, which unfortunately are no longer available from IKEA. The standard wheels for newer models do not fit without significant modifications, and I want to make the shelves mobile while keeping them as close to the original design and as stable as possible.
Has anyone found a source, alternative, or perhaps their own solution that works with little effort and can support the weight of fully loaded shelves? I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Hi everyone,
I completely understand how frustrating it can be to get used to the convenience of the movable KALLAX shelves and then suddenly miss replacement parts.
What I want to say is: no matter how tricky the solution is, it’s great that so many people are sharing their approaches and looking for a reasonable solution here.
Sometimes it’s the little tricks that make old furniture usable again and help conserve resources by reusing existing pieces.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for everyone working on such a solution that their shelf will be rolling like new again soon! 🙂

Can someone provide information about the recommended load ratings and suitable materials for the adapters?Adding to roryvin:
Check the strength grades of the screws (at least 8.8, preferably 10.9, if possible).
At the same time, use appropriate metal or plastic washers to prevent the screws from cutting into or damaging the adapter plate.
Regarding the construction: A small spacer can help ensure the rollers rotate freely and don’t rub against the plate.
One final tip: Roofing battens made from good-quality spruce wood are sometimes even more flexible than plywood and, due to the grain direction, more resistant to tensile forces if you’re looking for a particularly simple solution.
