Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion on the topic "Who has experience with combining Ikea Metod cabinets and LED lighting?" Specifically, I am interested in how LEDs can be integrated into Metod kitchen cabinets, both in terms of technical implementation and visual effect. Are there recommended LED systems that can be installed discreetly without damaging the cabinets? How should the power supply be handled – is it better to use 12V or 230V systems? Additionally, I am curious if anyone has experience with dimmable options and how these can be controlled. I would appreciate concrete tips if you have already done this yourselves, as well as general advice that could help with planning. Thanks in advance!
Based on several projects using Ikea Metod and LED lighting from my own experience, I recommend always choosing products with clearly defined technical specifications. Cheap LED strips can cause flickering or uneven brightness. For power supply, a stable 12V transformer with adequate wattage is essential. For dimming, I prefer a wireless system that can be integrated into a smart home, which helps avoid wiring complications. Another tip: test all components before installation and do a trial layout on site – this prevents unexpected issues later on.

If dimming is desired, a LED dimmer compatible with the transformer is recommended. I completely agree! I installed dimmable LEDs in my kitchen, and especially in the evening, they create a really cozy atmosphere. It’s also important that the LEDs are warm white – cool white can quickly feel uncomfortable in the kitchen. And yes, all the wiring can be a hassle, but with good conduits it’s manageable. I also had the fun of accidentally swapping the cables – then nothing worked, so it’s best to take your time and work carefully.

Another tip: Test all components before installation and lay them out on site once – this helps avoid surprises later. That’s a very good piece of advice. Since I’m planning to install the LEDs myself, I want to minimize the risk of mistakes as much as possible. What tools or aids do you use for routing the cables and installing the LEDs? Are there any recommended products for securing them that can also be removed cleanly without leaving residue in case changes are needed? And how did you install the dimmer switches?

What tools or aids do you use when laying cables and installing LEDs? I mostly use cable ties, double-sided tape, and small cable ducts. For installing the LEDs, a clean cloth helps to keep the adhesive surface free of dust. To remove residues without damage, there are special adhesive removers or silicone scrapers available. My switches are classic wall switches, usually installed next to the kitchen door. It’s easier with wireless or infrared dimmers that don’t require cable installation, in case you want to adjust the setup later.
