Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion on the topic "Who has experience with combining Ikea Metod cabinets and LED lighting?" Specifically, I am interested in how LEDs can be integrated into Metod kitchen cabinets, both in terms of technical implementation and visual effect. Are there recommended LED systems that can be installed discreetly without damaging the cabinets? How should the power supply be handled – is it better to use 12V or 230V systems? Additionally, I am curious if anyone has experience with dimmable options and how these can be controlled. I would appreciate concrete tips if you have already done this yourselves, as well as general advice that could help with planning. Thanks in advance!

For integrating LED lighting into Ikea Metod cabinets, I recommend the following: - Use 12V LED systems with a separate transformer, as these are more flexible and safer in the kitchen. - LEDs should be as slim as possible, for example, LED strips with 3M adhesive backing, since they are easy to install. - For power supply, a central transformer is better to serve multiple areas and keep wiring organized. - If dimming is desired, using an LED dimmer compatible with the transformer is recommended. Options include wall dimmers or remote controls. It is important to ensure compatibility between the transformer, LED, and dimmer. Installation should ideally be done by a professional, especially when connecting to the 230V (230V) mains supply.

About a year ago, I installed LED light strips myself in my Metod kitchen. I used the 12V LED lighting from Ikea’s range, which fits very well. It was important to place the LEDs where they are not directly visible, such as under upper cabinets or behind the countertop. I powered the lights with a suitable power supply that I hid in the back panel. Since I wanted to be able to dim the lighting, I also purchased a compatible dimmer controlled by a wall switch. Overall, I highly recommend this combination because Ikea designs the dimensions so that the LED components can be well integrated. If you like, I can also give you tips on cable routing.

I installed Ikea’s LED strips from Metod. Simply stuck them under the wall cabinets and connected them to a 12V power supply. Works reliably. I don’t have a dimmer, but the light is very pleasant.

That’s a good point. Especially with Metod, where the cabinets are modular, cables should ideally be routed through the gaps between the cabinets rather than being visibly run along the outside. For my installation, I used flexible plastic cable channels that can be discreetly hidden behind the cabinet edges. It’s also important to leave enough cable length before installation to allow for later adjustments.

Furthermore, when installing LED strips, the choice of adhesive is crucial, as not all 3M tapes will hold permanently on different painted surfaces. For maximum security, you can reinforce with double-sided mounting tape or use small clips.

Regarding the question about LEDs: Ikea offers the Metod lighting system in 12V, which is sufficiently bright and safe for household use. The LEDs can be used together with a transformer that is dimmable. Important: Pay attention to the load capacity of the transformer and the length of the LED strips to avoid voltage drops.
