We have an open-plan kitchen in our future house. The living area will have solid hardwood flooring. At the wood store, the salesperson mentioned that it is also possible to install hardwood flooring in the kitchen without any issues, which would definitely look much better than a separate tiled area. Who has had hardwood flooring in their kitchen for a longer time and can share their experience?

I would trust sealed hardwood flooring more than oiled. There are also matt finishes for sealed floors, and in my opinion, the difference compared to oiled floors is hardly noticeable anymore.

However, you can't repair sealed flooring.

And it feels terrible; in that case, you might as well skip it and opt for a cheap fake like vinyl.

No, rather not. The few advantages are that the flaws are not immediately visible, or that it is more or less waterproof. Otherwise, there is nothing that makes vinyl appear more attractive than hardwood flooring.

We have Jura tiles in the kitchen, and the rest is all hardwood flooring. With genuine Jura marble, I was concerned about the risk of grease stains. The “imitation tiles” are slip-resistant and were also used in the entrance area. At first, I was skeptical, but now I’m really impressed. The floor installer separated the hardwood using a barely visible strip. However, we put a lot of thought into the expansion joint beforehand. The house is finished, but my children, who will be moving in, are still living with me for convenience. The kitchen and living area are open-plan. I’ll take some photos and share them here so you can see how it was resolved. The interesting part is that our wood specialist insisted on wood floors in the kitchen—and didn’t even notice that it’s not real marble.
I know many people who were persuaded to install wood flooring in the kitchen.
The end result: now there are rugs everywhere because the floors are damaged, or rugs are laid down as a precaution. Sorry, that can’t be the solution.

This only shows that the issue was handling, and that the wood couldn’t meet the requirements of a kitchen, which are different from those of a living room. Carpet in the kitchen would wear out even faster than hardwood flooring, so I don’t understand that choice at all.

We have had solid wood flooring in our current kitchen for 9 years now. I cook a lot and intensively. It works perfectly. The floor looks just like the rest of the apartment.

Edit: It is wenge, oiled and brushed.
