Good morning everyone, I am currently planning to assemble a kitchen myself using Ikea Metod cabinets and came across the use of Ikea Metod corner connectors. My specific question is: who has experience with the Metod corner connectors, especially regarding the stability and durability of the corner joints? I am particularly interested in whether they have proven reliable under frequent use and stress (for example, in cabinet doors or drawers at the corner) or if these connections tend to be weak points that should be reinforced differently. Additionally, it would be helpful to hear if they are easy to install and if any special tools are required. Thanks in advance for your helpful feedback!
Hello Nailker, I can understand your concerns well – corner joints are often a weak point in furniture. I have assembled several Metod kitchens that use the corner connectors there, and my experience is that they are quite sturdy, but you need to work carefully to prevent anything from becoming loose. What helped me personally was tightening the screws well and positioning the connectors once beforehand before final assembly. If you want a bit more security, you could reinforce them with additional brackets, but basically, Ikea’s solution is quite sufficient. Have you ever tried assembling the parts without the instructions? If so, what worked for you?
Hello Nailker, first of all: The Metod corner connectors were developed by Ikea specifically to securely join Metod cabinets. I have installed several kitchens using them and would like to add a few points:
- The connectors are made of metal, which provides solid stability.
- The key factor is precise alignment during assembly, which minimizes tension later on.
- In corners with especially high stress (for example, cabinet doors that are frequently opened and closed) you can additionally use brackets or glue for extra support.
You generally don’t need any additional tools, but a good screwdriver set makes the work much easier. If you have any questions about the assembly, feel free to ask!

Hello everyone, I can only agree with the previous reports. At first, I also had doubts whether the corner connectors would be able to support the weight of my kitchen furniture over time. In my case, after 3 years of use, nothing has come loose, but I always carefully checked during installation to make sure they were properly seated. The first time I was a bit unsure, but now it works really well. A bit of patience and careful handling are, in my opinion, the most important things. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!
